Product Review: Innisfree Brightening and Pore-Caring Serum

The key ingredient in Innisfree Brightening & Pore-Caring Serum is tangerine. The skincare brand Innisfree hails from Jeju Island, an hour plane ride from Seoul, Korea and popularly known for its bountiful harvests of tangerines. For the past 20 years or so, Innisfree has been the skincare and beauty brand that Koreans trust, because they use responsibly sourced ingredients in all of their products like soybean, green tea, camellia, and of course tangerines, which are free from pesticides.

I’ve been using Innisfree products for awhile, but this is my first time using the Brightening & Pore-Caring Serum. It’s a double duty serum packed with tons of Vitamin C to help brighten skin’s tone, texture and pores.

☆☆☆ (out of 5 stars)

The Brightening & Pore-Caring Serum was a lot lighter than I expected. Prior to purchasing I went on the assumption that all Vitamin C serums were meant to be a bit more aggressive on the skin than others since it’s a chemical exfoliant. It has a gel like consistency, which I liked, very easy to “pat pat pat” on to my forehead, cheeks and chin. I experienced no burning or irritants upon or after application. I applied this in my morning and nighttime skincare routine. Reminder that if you do apply this in the mornings, don’t forget to wear SPF (!), cannot stress that enough since the Vitamin C can burn the skin once exposed to direct sunlight.

Suitable for normal, dry and combination and oily skin, I was really hoping to fall in love with this serum. Maybe I placed too high of an expectation even before I started using the serum. The consistency was just too light for me, I needed more to see any results.

What I do like about this serum is that it’s loaded with ampoule essence that is supposed to instantly brighten complexion. According to other reviews, if you have acne prone skin, then this serum is lightweight enough to manage sensitive skin.

Other good things about it is that contains no mineral oil, imidazolydinyl urea, you know the formaledehyde scientists use to preserve dead bodies — no thanks. There’s also no synthetic fragrance, which I really appreciated. No distinct scents upon application.

All in all, the Brightening & Pore-Caring Serum is not bad serum, like I mentioned that if you have very sensitive skin, this will most likely work for you. Also, it’s at a very affordable price point for a Vitamin C serum.
