Pace Gallery is a leading international art gallery representing some of the most influential contemporary artists and estates from the past century. Since its founding by Arne Glimcher in 1960, Pace has developed a distinguished legacy as an artist-first gallery that mounts seminal historical and contemporary exhibitions.
Today, Pace has nine locations worldwide including London, Geneva, a strong foothold in Palo Alto and two galleries in New York. Pace was one of the first international galleries to establish outposts in Asia where it operates permanent spaces in Hong Kong and Seoul.
Currently seeking an enthusiastic, highly organized, and detail-oriented Editorial Associate to provide support for publication projects under the gallery imprint. This person will provide editorial and administrative assistance throughout all aspects of the publications process, from initial planning stages through to printing and distribution. Part of the Communications & Public Engagement Department, the Publications team is highly collaborative, working together to ensure the highest quality in all aspects of book making. Reporting to the Editorial Director, the Editorial Associate also works closely with the design and production team members to set priorities, maintain schedules, and ensure timely progress of projects.
The Editorial Associate will also collaborate closely with other departments within the gallery, including Sales, Curatorial, Imaging, and Research & Archives, as well as external designers and publishing industry professionals in the execution of their responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in art history, English, or related field of study with 2+ years of work experience
Prior gallery, museum, publishing house, or visual arts experience preferred
Active interest in and knowledge of contemporary visual and literary art
A sincere commitment to the world of books
Exceptional grasp of punctuation and grammar
Confident proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail and commitment to follow-up, and an eagerness to learn
Knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition)
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, manage time effectively, and pursue several projects simultaneously
Strong written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills
Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft Word (especially its editing tools), Excel, and Outlook
Dependability, flexibility, and adaptability in a dynamic environment
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with project management and maintenance of global publication program
Draft book summaries
Editorial data entry and file transfers
Draft and file contracts
Facilitate invoice payment
Develop and maintain schedules using project management software
Liaise with other departments for organization of image rights and text reprints
Organize and maintain mailing lists
Assist with Art Book Fair organization and realization
Schedule meetings
Research and fact-checking
Review texts for grammar, spelling, punctuation, standard art historical usage, and consistency throughout publication
Proof interim and final versions of projects to ensure all corrections have been made
Participate in editorial, design, and production meetings
Assist with book shipping
Support freelance editors and act as their principal point of contact
Act as line of contact for external designers
Support other gallery editorial tasks as needed
