5 Good Vlogs on Living Alone

There is an extremely popular award-winning South Korean variety show, I Live Alone (aka Home Alone) that spotlights celebrities in a day in a life scenario. In an observational comedy format, the reality series has been around since 2013 and if I had to guess has been influential to YouTube vloggers. In countries like South Korea the number of single households have risen and continue to do so as millennials and Gen Z have decided that living alone is just better.
While the sky rocket housing markets often deter the financial ability for most people to live on their own, it’s always a bucket list goal to do so at least once in your life.
But is there a loneliness factor? Yes, sometimes a twinge of lonely creeps up on you and then you remember all the reasons why you chose to live by yourself. The personal freedom, the mental and spiritual peace it gives knowing that you are only responsible for yourself. Plus, it’s just great being able to decorate your space the way that you want. It’s those little things as you’ll see in these vlogs.
NAO 📍 JAPAN
I don’t know much about the creator Nao based somewhere in Japan, but since the 2020 lockdown have enjoyed watching her slow life vlogs. The purpose of her channel falls under a personal theme of "living as who I am" and "being kind to myself.” Nao’s vlogs are pleasant, calm and reassuring that living alone is not about being lonely.
SUEDDU 📍SOUTH KOREA
If you’ve been a loyal reader, you know how much we adore Sueddu’s single life-freelancer/shop owner aesthetics including her precious fur baby Bebe. Her apartment and work spaces offer minimalist, but cozy enough that you’re not labeled a minimalist.
CHELSEA CALLAHAN 📍 NEW YORK CITY
There’s nothing more real and authentic of living in New York than being held hostage by a cockroach in your apartment. Thankfully, Chelsea can rely on her two feline babies to be her heroes and personal, no-fee exterminators. “I just feel sexy in a turtleneck” - Chelsea on autumn in New York.
AMANI RICHARDSON 📍 NYC
Amani is the new Carrie Bradshaw living her best, most meaningful 20’s era and I am glad to watch her in these vlogs. I think what she wrote in the description note of the vlog sums Amani up beautifully: “These days I dream of a life where I get butterflies from my girlfriends who help remind me of my greatness, who show up for me and support me when I’m overwhelmed with sadness and simply want a hug.”
ESTEE LALONDE 📍 LONDON
Personally, I don’t know too many people who aren’t familiar with Estee’s life journey via YouTube. You’re either on her team or you’re not, and it would take a separate post to recite a summary. But Estee’s longstanding fan base is due to her personal insights and days in her life as a single woman who has grown (personally and professionally), hurt, healed and thrived before our eyes. She’s not you atypical vlogger who will curate a pretty still, Estee is the real deal and shows her life authentically as she can.
