A Love Letter To Layering
by Azucena Melchor
I love summer clothes but I love fall clothes even more.
Why? Because I can wear more of them, and more clothes means more opportunities to put together something great.
For me, making the most out of the volatile fall weather that’ll be here in New York before too long is going to mean layers, and lots of them. I’m talking jackets, button ups, camis, funky tights, long skirts and more.
And really, layers are the most foolproof way to prepare for the long days out of the house that come as things pick up in the fall. They give us the option to dress for work AND fun, rain AND shine, daytime AND evening.
So, since it’s the fall season, here’s how I’ll be styling some of my favorite types of layers.
Pair a pair of colorful tights with your favorite matching mini skirt, a small top, a cardigan and some chunky heels to update your summer clothes for fall weather.
Place a sleeveless shirt, vest or corset over a solid colored button up shirt for a look that’s laid back but also crisp and put together.
Layer a knit dress on top of a pair of wide leg jeans (Whoever says you can’t do jeans and a dress is wrong) and dress it up with a pair of flashy heels for a fashion forward fit.
