There are Juneteeth protests and celebrations taking place across the country tomorrow. There will be dozens in New York City alone — the @JusticeForGeorgeNYC account on Instagram has a list of all of them. In Washington, D.C., organizers have planned a Strike for Black Lives, and are calling on participants to engage in “strikes, sick-outs, blockades, occupations, and spontaneous marches.” Read more at link in bio on how you can get involved. “Juneteenth should be a national holiday. We @snydernewyork will be closed on Friday in recognition of Juneteenth, which marks the date of emancipation of the last Black slaves in Texas in 1865. . This holiday has been celebrated by Black Americans ever since, and we’d like to honor these remembrance celebrations. As the fight for *true* freedom for Black Americans goes on, we hope Juneteenth will become part of a meaningful new national tradition. . We’ll all be taking the day to read, reflect, and continue on in our individual efforts for the revolution.
