Review: Juice Beauty's Green Apple Brightening Essence

My skin and I can have a love-hate relationship at times. So I’m always up for incorporating new products into my skincare routine that can give me more consistent results, but it’s an added bonus when they’re produced ethically. Enter Juice Beauty’s Green Apple Brightening Essence

The newest addition to the Green Apple Brightening collection promises to soothe, refine and balance moisture to brighten your complexion. In true Juice Beauty fashion, this luminosity is achieved by using USDA certified organic ingredients. Among a bunch of great ingredients, their Green Apple Brightening Essence uses tamarind skin to provide that thin veil of moisture over your skin, zanthoxylum fruit to reduce redness, and a green apple cocktail formulated to improve skin texture.

Because it’s an essence, it isn’t something you really use as a stand alone product. Incorporate it into your skincare routine after cleansing and before moisturizing. If you’re unfamiliar with essences or don’t know the difference between an essence and a serum, I’ve gotcha covered. Essences and serums aren’t the same thing, although they share similar outcomes. They both add hydration to your skin and aid in prep your skin for more efficient product absorption, but the difference is in the consistency and concentration. Essences are thinner and less concentrated than serums which causes them to be absorbed differently.

After using the Green Apple Brightening Essence for a week, I definitely saw results. It’s got a watery, slightly milky texture that feels lightweight on your skin. Once you massage it in, it turns your skin into a sponge that’s ready to just absorb whatever products you apply afterwards. My complexion looks brighter and more even. This is probably thanks to those awesome ingredients I mentioned earlier as well as the other great stuff Juice Beauty puts into the Green Apple Brightening Essence. In particular, things that are rich in antioxidants, like apple juice and green tea leaves (which both happen to be ingredients in this product), help firm skin and protect it from free radicals.

Although Juice Beauty’s site says that the Green Apple Brightening Essence is the only product in the Green Apple Brightening collection that is suitable for sensitive skin, I wouldn’t say it’s an ideal choice for this skin type. It usually felt really refreshing and soothing when I applied it, but there was one occasion when my cheeks were particularly dry after too much sun exposure where it felt more like a subtle burning sensation. The sting only lasted a few minutes and my skin was soothed by the end of the day, but I would proceed with caution to see how it ends up affecting you if you have severely sensitive skin.

Overall, Juice Beauty delivered a solid product in their Green Apple Brightening Essence that does what it promises and I’m definitely going to continue incorporating it into my skincare routine.
