Downtown Girls Love Batsheva

Batsheva x Brother Vellies // DNAMAG

Batsheva Hay is a former attorney who found time on the side to design matching dresses for herself and her daughter, which grabbed a lot of attention from the New York fashion scene. By 2016 she officially launched her eponymous line, a collection inspired by vintage Laura Ashley and Gunne Sax dresses. Batsheva's aesthetic is one for the nostalgics. As much as it reflects the style of the past, she captures the old-timey feminine silhouette set to modern patterns in florals and even leopard prints.

Keeping to her own aesthetic and deterring from trends has paid off for Batsheva as she is one of the finalists for CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund. The designer mentions in the interview to Vogue.com who her design icon was and why, “Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I love her collars; she’s a cool lady. The woman I’m designing for is not someone who just wants to follow what everyone else is doing—she’s a woman with a point of view and confidence."
