How to Wear Primary Colors

How to wear primary colors for spring // DNAMAG

Written by Alexa Wilson

Primaries--red, yellow, and blue (RYB)--are a group of colors that, when mixed, comprise all other colors. Because they’re each so strong in their own right, putting these colors all together conveys an unapologetic confidence and a sense of playfulness. You can’t ignore a primary palette. Below, we've got three tips for how you can make the look your own. 🌈

1. The RYB color palette is already a strong choice, so why not push all the boundaries you can? Mix, match, and take chances with offsetting patterns and textures. This is also a tip if your want to move away from the more playful aspects of primary colors and bring out a sense of toughness.

2. Bringing in neutral or subdued tones help counteract the in-your-face nature of these bright, bold colors. Earthy and neutral tones quite literally bring these colors down to earth and bring a sense of balance to what could be a really polarizing palette.

3. Experimenting with tone between the RYB palette can create different moods. If you pair pure primary tones with lighter tones, you’re able to bring out a sense of softness while still making a clear statement.
