There’s Barbie pink and then there’s Sandy Liang pink. Inspired by young femininity characterized in Sofia Coppola films like The Virgin Suicides and Marie Antoinette, particularly the designer’s motive to update the “new princess” style of dressing. She envisioned that girl going out in her mom’s lace dress, but wearing her own TJ Maxx flip-flops, which was effortlessly displayed in the runway looks. Liang continues to confess her love for bows, for the charm innocence that it represents.
The Sandy Liang vibe has always been downtown friendly, but with prom meets Jane Austen party dresses, there is slight reminisce to Whit Stillman’s Metropolitan.
