5 Good Songs To Add To Playlist
credit: Lizzo
ARTIST: SAMARA JOY
SONG: SOMEONE LIKE YOU
Two-time Grammy award winner, Samara Joy is leading the new generation of American jazz singers. Some have called the Bronx native the next Ella, Billie and Nina. For myself, her vocals are smooth as silk that calms me to the core.
And she nails it with the Adele cover.
ARTIST: ANNE-MARIE
SONG: SAD BITCH
English singer Anne-Marie is one of the biggest pop stars in the UK with collaborations from Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran to David Guetta. This song gets me going in the morning, as the lyrics say, “this isn’t another sad girl anthem” rather it’s putting out all the bad trash energy to the curb and getting on with it.
ARTIST: GRACIE ABRAMS
SONG: WHERE DO WE GO NOW
Singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams officially debuted during the summer of 2020 pandemic and frankly what a perfect time for a Gen Z to drop a first single. After many, many Zoom shows the young singer is ready to take it out on the road, the wide open spaces welcome her as she tours in the U.S., UK and Europe in 2023. I love the start of this song, it gives hope in the keyboard timing accompanied by Gracie’s dusty soft voice builds up a momentum of promises and feeling lost, but hopefully gets to where she needs to be.
ARTIST(S): LIZZO FEATURING SZA
SONG: SPECIAL
A strong girl duo if there was one, the two powerhouses Lizzo and Sza joined together in this single serving as a reminder to let your friend know, she’s special. There is even self-care in the lyrics,“broken but damn perfect” let this be your self-affirmation song.
ARTIST: LANA DEL REY
SONG: A&W
Lana Del Rey goes back to her early adolescent upbringing in A&W. Midway through the song she is a grown woman of thirty-three and sings “it’s not about having someone to love me anymore…”. And there are your life lessons to be learned and sung about. Don’t underestimate this song, towards the end, it feels like a bad dream or a therapy session unleashed but in an upswing tempo.
