We’re now approaching autumn, and it is pretty much a universally accepted truth that it is the best season for fashion. Why exactly? It’s the season of light layering, a toasty palette inspired by the changing color of the leaves, and oversized knit sweaters. If you’re in search of some style inspiration for the changing seasons, then look no further.

MEG RYAN IN “WHEN HARRY MET SALLY”

When we think autumn, Meg Ryan as Sally Albright in “When Harry Met Sally” is the quintessential style icon of the season. Nearly every outfit Sally wears screams ‘autumn in New York’ (and a few of Billy Crystal’s outfits too!). We especially can’t get enough of the boxy blazer over a chunky turtleneck look. The film might have come out in 1989, but we’re convinced that fall style is eternal.

ALEXA CHUNG

Alexa Chung has been one of our contemporary style icons for years. She knows exactly how to be fashion-forward without being too trendy, and we’re taking notes. For a Brit-inspired autumn wardrobe like hers, start off with office wear basics in neutral colors, and pair with statement pieces, like a tweed blazer or plaid overcoat.

JANE BIRKIN

Truth be told, Jane Birkin is a year-round fashion idol. But when it comes to autumn looks, Birkin’s classic easy mini dress and coat pairing is the perfect minimalist go-to outfit. She has the natural, effortless look down to a T and reminds us that, often, less is more when putting together the perfect outfit.

Winona Ryder

WINONA RYDER

A Google image search for “Winona Ryder style” beholds the grunge-y fall capsule wardrobe of our dreams. Throughout the ‘90s, Winona Ryder had her fair share of fashion moments: the leather moto jackets, the velvet, the oversized blazers – we’re in love! For a Ryder-esque fall look, keep the colors to a minimum and remember that you can do no wrong with a trusty vintage leather jacket.
