2021 is creeping up on us, and unfulfilled New Year’s resolutions aren’t the only thing we’re looking forward to – here are five things that we can’t wait for in the coming year.

THE VACCINE ROLLOUT BABY!

The COVID-19 vaccine has made its way into the world, with the first round of treatments making its way to frontline workers across the nation. Though there are differing timelines of when exactly the vaccine will be made available to the general public, we are already counting down the days until physical touch and cheek kisses and movie theaters and communal punch bowls make their way into our daily lives again.

SUCCESSION SEASON 3

Slated to air next year, everyone’s favorite amoralistic, ultrarich and deeply dysfunctional family is coming back to HBO next year, and we simply can’t contain ourselves. Though production was delayed as a result of the pandemic, it seems like nothing can stop Shiv Roy from barging onto our screens come 2021, in a pantsuit nonetheless.

CONCERTS + FESTIVALS

Following a substantial movement to #SaveOurStages, live venues across the country will be receiving federal funding to help keep their doors open amongst the live music drought of the past few months. If live music makes its comeback in any capacity next year, we’ll be happy. Because, really, when have we ever felt more alive than when gasping for even an ounce of air deep in the cell of a mosh pit?

ST. VINCENT’S NEW ALBUM

St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, genre-bending queen of indie-rock-artpop-etc. and also the love of our lives, is returning next year with a follow-up to 2017’s universally praised MASSEDUCTION. Clark has teased that her upcoming album is reminiscent of “Gena Rowlands in a Cassavetes film,” and will have the “the color palette of the world of Taxi Driver,” which is, basically, our exact love language.

INAUGURATION DAY

Come January 20, Joe Biden will no longer be “President-elect,” but President Joe Biden. There’s still a great deal of work to be done – from policy reform to total transformations of our institutions as we know it, it’s up to us to hold our elected officials accountable and representative of the future we want to see. But for the first time in a while, it feels like we’re collectively taking a step in the right direction. From the diverse perspectives within Biden’s cabinet to the push to adopt more progressive reform like student loan forgiveness, we are excited – not just to see what this new era has in store for us, but to help shape it ourselves.
