Throughout Proenza Schouler’s Autumn-Winter 2022 collection I was reminded of an old TV interview with Katherine Hepburn (that is now a TikTok). When the interviewer asked why she always wears pants, Hepburn answered that pants were just so much more comfortable. The actress was famously known for wearing baggy menswear slacks during a time in America when it was strictly suitable for men to wear the pants in the industry. But, I’m guessing that if Hepburn were alive today, for this particular PS collection, there could be a few dresses she might consider acquiring just the right amount of silhouette without losing her tomboyish confidence.
The strong tailoring that Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCullough are known for remains intact as they were as Parsons grads twenty years ago. if you listen to their recent podcast interview with Lauren Sherman of Business of Fashion, you’ll understand why Proenza Schouler the brand and its designers are coming through this near post-pandemic time almost like a homecoming.
